Logic Model Essentials

Introduction
 The ambitions of a public health program can be lofty, requiring skillful organization and a keen understanding of what it takes to meet the needs of a community. Unfortunately, some programs struggle to accomplish their goals because they lack a clear picture of their program logic and direction.

So what can you do about it?
Build a logic model! A logic model is the key to eliminating the guesswork involved in program planning. Logic models help you stay on task by organizing program efforts and determining the best route to the desired goals. As you prepare to launch an initiative or make changes to an existing program, creating a logic model can help to ensure that you remain focused on your goal. If you have not constructed a logic model before, then it's important to understand what you are getting into before you begin.

TTAC can help.
TTAC presents its Logic Model Essentials Web-based course. This interactive distance-learning program was designed with input from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Office on Smoking and Health and Division of Diabetes Translation to provide public health professionals with an understanding of the purpose and features of a logic model, the skills and tools needed to build a logic model, and knowledge of the important ways to apply logic model results.

Who should take this course?
YOU! The workshop is designed for public health workers with a desire or need to gain a better understanding of logic models and the utility of logic models. Whether you are starting a new program, planning an evaluation, or looking to strengthen a current program, it is valuable to understand Logic Model Essentials.

A web-based course?
This web-based program is an interactive experience involving lessons with visual aids, group discussion, self-assessments, and individual learning activities designed to apply the concepts covered in each module. The coursework can be completed at the participant’s convenience during the six weeks allotted for the course, and in the comfort of their own home or office. Because web-based learning may be a new method of learning for the user, the first module focuses on navigating the online learning environment.

When?
Save the date! The next session of the Logic Model Essentials web-based course will start in summer 2013. This course contains 4 modules, which are completed over a six-week span; each module lasts for 1-2 weeks, and requires a commitment of between 3 and 5 hours for learning activities.
