Pacific
Center on Health and Tobacco
Organizational Summary
What is the mission of your organization with respect
to tobacco cessation?
The Pacific Center on Health and Tobacco (PCHT) began as
a five-state coalition of lead agencies and state health departments
working in partnership with national agencies to help states
establish comprehensive, evidence-based statewide tobacco
cessation programs. The five states were Oregon, Washington,
Arizona, Hawaii, and California. The work of the PCHT has
now expanded into coordination and supporting the Comprehensive
Tobacco Cessation Leadership Project.
What types of products or services do you offer presently?
The PCHT has developed information, resources and tools for
state managers and administrators of tobacco control programs,
businesses, voluntary organizations, health care systems,
state agencies, and others to guide the development process.
These tools are available electronically on the PCHT website:
http://www.paccenter.org
and hard copies can be ordered by contacting the PCHT office.
The PCHT also provides on sight, telephone, and email technical
assistance to states working to establish comprehensive tobacco
cessation programs.
The PCHT has also serves as a convener for national and state
partner working groups on tobacco cessation.

organization regarding tobacco cessation? What projects are
you undertaking this year? What are you funding?
The PCHT coordinate information sharing and direct technical
assistance to states including topic specific conference calls.
The PCHT also coordinates a national level cessation workshop
for participants in the Comprehensive Statewide Tobacco Cessation
Leadership Project. Our website continues to offer resources
and we will continue to disseminate PCHT resource materials.
The PCHT also coordinates a working group of national partners
to help with collaboration across agencies and to identify
and apply emerging best practices.
What projects/initiatives are you considering for
next year? What would you like to become more involved in?
We would like to see an ongoing project among the existing
national and state partners that actively applies tobacco
cessation strategies and documents results.

actively working on tobacco cessation?
