Meeting Goals and Objectives:

1. Build leadership at the state and project level for implementing strategies for increasing access to tobacco cessation treatment.

  • Provide opportunities to showcase leadership through presentation of case studies.
  • Draw upon participants throughout meeting to provide insight and experience on key issues.
  • Provide additional training and assistance to build leadership skills.

2. Share best and emerging practices

  • Invite participants to summarize and share what is working in their programs
  • Invite expert speakers to present new research and information relevant to the field e.g. integrating quitlines with health care delivery
  • Provide documents, websites, and other resources that illustrate and summarize best practices.

3. Collaborate using the collective experience for developing strategies to address challenges faced by each working group.

  • Request each working group to complete a state profile before the meeting to be shared with all participants.
  • Request each working group to identify new directions and challenges faced.
  • Invite each participant to contribute to problem-solving and strategy development for each working group.

4. Expand the network of available resources

  • Provide contact and project summary information for all participants.
  • Provide resource materials and web links.
  • Develop a document of proceedings of meeting for distribution.
  • Develop topics for ongoing conference calls.

Expected Outcomes:

  1. Increased resources for addressing tobacco cessation policies and programs.
  2. Stronger and more collaborative relationships between state and national program representatives.
  3. Improved strategies for addressing challenges to tobacco cessation policies and programs.
