In the past few years, several prominent organizations have made tobacco policy recommendations for college campuses. These highlight elements of a comprehensive approach to tobacco prevention and are general enough to be applied to any campus.

The American College Health Association—Position Statement on Tobacco on College and University Campuses
The American College Health Association is the principal advocate and leadership organization for college and university health.


The CASA Commission on Substance Abuse at Colleges and Universities Report: The Smoke-free Campus
The Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASA) formed a special commission in the early 1990s to examine substance use on campuses and recommend strategies to curb abuse. Their report entitled “The Smoke-Free Campus” describes strategies for curbing tobacco use on campuses.


The American Cancer Society’s Smoke-Free New England Campus Initiative
The Smoke-Free New England Campus Initiative is a comprehensive, seven-step program for eliminating or reducing tobacco use on college campuses.


Americans for Nonsmokers’ Rights—Model Policy for a Smokefree University
Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights is a national lobbying organization dedicated to nonsmokers' rights, taking on the tobacco industry at all levels of government to protect nonsmokers from secondhand smoke and youth from tobacco addiction through policy and legislation.
