University of California, Davis - Tobacco Prevention Internship
Public university located in Davis, California
Enrollment: 23,368
Type/Category: Curriculum Infusion
Program: UC Davis’ tobacco prevention
internship provides students with advocacy skills training,
information about tobacco, and the opportunity to plan and
implement tobacco control activities. The internship curriculum
was developed in conjunction with the Yolo County Health Department
and is offered through the UC Davis Department of Epidemiology
and Preventative Medicine.
Students receive credit for this internship and are required
to commit about two hours a week over the course of three
of the four quarters per academic year. During the first quarter,
students learn about tobacco through a class called “Tobacco
101” and receive advocacy skills training. Students
also begin to plan activities that they then implement during
the winter and spring quarters. These activities include environmental
and community organizing strategies to promote student-driven
tobacco policy and program initiatives.
