Organizational Description
In operation since April 1999, the American Legacy Foundation was created as a result of the Master Settlement Agreement between tobacco manufacturers and a coalition of 46 state Attorneys General. Legacy’s mission is to build a world where young people reject tobacco and anyone can quit. The foundation’s mission is:

To arm all young people with the knowledge and tools to reject tobacco.

To eliminate disparities in access to tobacco prevention and cessation services.
Job Description The Program Officer will review and negotiate grants to states, local political subdivisions and non-profit organizations. The Program Officer will assist in developing and managing nationwide grants programs and have day-to-day responsibility to manage a portfolio of grant programs. The Program Officer will develop outreach strategies to engage potential applicants and administer on-line grants processes.
Responsibilities:

Review and negotiate grants to states, local political subdivisions and non-profit organizations
- Review and evaluate grantee programs, plans and objectives
- Identify and broker program development, training and technical assistance needs
- Provide ongoing administrative and financial support to grantees
- Develop outreach strategies to engage potential applicants
- Administer on-line grants processes and maintain the grantee newsletter
- Assist in designing proactive initiatives that maximize Legacy’s resources and innovatively address funding opportunities, program gaps and unmet needs
- Maintain relationships with state and local tobacco control leaders, foundations and others interested in tobacco control
Qualification
Ideal candidate must have experience in developing and managing grant programs, especially new initiatives; a background in health programming, especially tobacco control programs; experience in analyzing and evaluating program activities. Strong computer skills, interpersonal skills and team approach and experience in communicating specialized information orally and in writing are a must. An advanced degree in public health or health policy and experience in public policy on a state or local level are preferred.
Compensation Package:
Salary is low-mid $50s based on experience with EXCELLENT benefits.
